The original Pittsburgh Sanitary Fair opened June 1, 1864 near Federal and Ohio Streets in Allegheny City. The Pittsburgh Sanitary Fair was a regional fund-raising effort to benefit wounded Union soldiers and their families.
In observance of the 150th anniversary of the original event, we present a program of first-person interpretations of local people relating their experiences with the Civil War and the Fair. Join us at the Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church at 416 W. North Avenue, beginning at 10:30AM. The event will conclude with a walk to the Soldier’s Monument, where a wreath will be placed in remembrance.
